Rod Serling's tale of a patient visiting a psychiatrist because of recurrent dreams in which he wakes up 17 years in the past, in Hawaii just before the attack on Pearl Harbor. Serling intended this to be the pilot episode for his proposed Twilight Zone series but it was rejected by CBS who wanted a half-hour format. Desilu ended up buying the play. When "The Time Element" was broadcast on November 24, 1958, the response was overwhelming - phone calls, letters and telegrams flooded the network, more than they had ever received for a drama - and the critics raved.
